Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can I place an order?
A: Contact an authorised dealer. Refer to the Dealer Locator page on this website for information on the dealer nearest you.

Q: How can I find out the price of the fan I want?
A: Contact your nearest dealer, give that dealer the specifics on the fan you wish to order (blade, lighting, finish and
accessory options), and the dealer will provide the price of the fan you wish to purchase.

Q: What is the blade sweep of a fan?
A: The blade sweep of a fan is generally the circular area that is covered by the fan's blades while in rotation. The diameter
of a fan's blade sweep, on fans with multiple blades, is measured by taking the distance from the edge of one blade to the
edge of the opposite blade. See your fan's specifications sheet for more information about blade sweep.

Q: Will my fan come with replacement blades?
A: When ordering a fan with a palm blade set, you will receive two spare blades. The wicker, bamboo and wood blade sets
do not contain any spare/replacement blades.

Q: What is the RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) rate for my fan?
A: The RPM varies greatly, depending on the blade size and material, the pole length and the space between the fan and
the ceiling or wall. Smaller 18” blades, as well as blades of lighter material, increase the RPM rate. Check the specifications
sheet of your fan or contact your dealer for the approximate RPM rate of your specific fan.

Q: What does "Damp rated" and "Wet rating" mean when referring to ceiling fans?
A: DAMP - These fans are warranted for use in exterior or interior locations that are periodically subject to condensation of moisture on, or adjacent to the fan. The fans must be adequately protected from the elements by a sealed roof. Examples include roofed porches or verandahs and like locations. WET – These fans are warranted for use in areas in which water can drip or splash on or against the fan body, supporting rod (must be model specific wet rated rod) and light kit (must be model specific wet rated light kit).

Q: Does the Fan Gallery have damp location fans? Are your fans rated for outdoor use?
A: We have several models rated for damp location, which are available only in specific finishes. These fans have been
specially designed for locations that are damp or humid, such as porches, verandas, waterfront homes and patios.
However, even with fan models that are UL Listed for Damp Locations, the speed controller and the fan itself must be
completely under cover and not exposed directly to water spray or rain. Fans that are UL Listed for Damp Locations are
not meant to be used outdoors or in wet locations.

Q: What blades are recommended for fans that are UL Listed for Damp Locations?
A: The blade sets we recommend for fans that are UL Listed for Damp Locations are the wicker and woven bamboo (any color/shape). The only blade we would specifically discourage for use in damp locations is the natural palm leaf blade.

Q: Can I purchase blades for other brand fans?
A: No. The motor, flywheel and bladeholder on our fans have been specifically designed to run properly with Fanimation
blade sets. Other manufacturers’ motors will not be compatible with the size and weight of our blade sets. For this reason
Fan Galleries Australia does not sell blades or bladeholders separately.

Q: Can any fans be operated by a remote control?
A: Yes, our handheld remote control units can be used on the following fans: The Treventi™, The Islander®, The Louvre®,

Q: Will my “non-Fan Galleries Australia” remote/speed control work on your fans?
A: Fan Galleries Australia does not test other manufacturers’ products at our factory. If a customer wishes to attempt to
control a our fan with a foreign remote control, we will not be held responsible for any damage that may occur. If customers
do use a foreign remote control, it must have set speeds and not gradual/infinite controls, which may damage the fan, cause humming and other noises and cause the fan to work improperly.

Q: Which fan/blade combination provides maximum air movement?
A: The more narrow blades (e.g., the standard oar and the narrow oval) provide a greater amount of airflow. The use of
heavier blade materials (e.g., bamboo, wicker) also increases airflow.

Q: How should I clean the blades on my fan?
A: Dust them regularly with a feather duster or soft dusting brush. Because of their coating and durability, the wicker, bamboo and wood blades can be cleaned with a damp cloth.

Q: Is there a guarantee/warranty on the fan blades?
A: The fan blades are not guaranteed/warranted for any specified amount of time. Depending on the use and location of the
fan, you should expect to replace your palm leaf blades every three to five years. The wicker and bamboo blades should
not need to be replaced for at least 10 years. Of course, if you receive a blade set with damaged blades in it, we will replace
any blades needed to hang the fan.

Q: My fan is wobbling. What can I do to fix this?
A: Check that the hanger ball (on the downrod) is locked into its slot in the hanger bracket. Also, check to ensure that each bladeholder is screwed into the flywheel securely. If wobbling continues, try rearranging the blades around the flywheel.

Q: My fan is making a humming sound. How can I fix this?
A: Make sure you are using the appropriate speed control. If you are doing so, and the fan is still humming, you may have a faulty control and replacing the control may solve the problem. If you are using another type of control that does not have set speeds (low, medium, high), that is probably the cause of the noise.

Q: The fan is making a squeaking noise. What can I do to fix this?
A: Make sure all connections are tight; ceiling canopy, hanger ball, downrod support, blade holders, flywheel set screw, switch cup housing, light kit or fitter.

Q: My fan is not turning at all. How can I fix this?
A: Make sure you are using the appropriate speed control. You should also check to make sure the “reverse switch” on the switch housing cap at the bottom of the fan is pushed completely up or down. If this switch is in the middle, the fan will not run. Also check the wire connection in the wall speed controller.

Q: What is the warranty on my fan?
A: The warranty varies from fan to fan. Check with your dealer for warranty information on your specific fan model.

Q: I live in an area/country where we do not have any dealers nearby. How can I place an order?
A: Contact our office on 07 3801 8577.

Q: Which fans accept a light kit or fitter?
A: All of the our fans accept light kits, except for The Punkah™.

Q: Can I use a light kit or fitter that is from another maker?
A: Most standard light kits and fitters will fit the housing of our fans. However, we do not test these products made by other manufacturers and therefore, we cannot guarantee that they will work properly on our products.

Q: What is the difference between a light kit and a fitter?
A: A fitter requires glass. A light kit contains all the hardware, attachment pieces and glass required for use on the fan.

Q: How can I extend my pole farther than your longest pole, which is 72”?
A: The downrod and the extension poles can be extended by using a coupler to join two poles together. You will need to purchase a combination of downrods/extension poles that equal the desired length and then purchase the corresponding
coupler to join them together. We do not recommend extending the drop farther than 10-12 feet.

Q: How much length does the light kit add to the overall drop of the fan?
A: The light kits are between 3½-7½” overall. Simply add this dimension to the overall drop length of the fan.

Q: Is a downrod and/or extension pole included with every fan?
A: No. The Fanimation fans that include a 6” downrod are The Treventi™, The Islander® and The Louvre®. The Palisade®
does not include an extension pole, but one is necessary for installation.

Q: Are the poles (DR/EP) threaded?
A: No, the poles are not threaded.

Q: Can I cut the downrod/extension pole to my desired length?
A: If necessary the downrods and extension poles can be cut to your desired length. It is not recommended to cut the
downrod less than 6” or the extension pole less than 24”. If cutting is necessary, using a licensed electrician is
recommended.
